Facts and FAQ
During the full scan, the arms, legs, hands, feet, brain, face, heart, abdominal wall, spine, stomach, kidneys, and bladder are assessed. Between weeks 19–22, the organs are clearly visible, which is why the malformation scan is performed at this time.

You will receive a thorough review of the fetus’s anatomy. The scan is performed on the abdomen, though occasionally a vaginal scan may be necessary. The late full scan is the same as those performed at hospitals nationwide. The baby is carefully examined from head to toe. The scan is conducted by both our sonographers and doctors.
A report describing all of the fetus’s organs, bones, placenta, and amniotic fluid. Measurements and estimated weight. The baby’s sex, if desired. High-quality black-and-white printed images. All images and video clips sent to your phone via a QR code. Option to record the entire scan—bring your own USB or purchase one at the clinic.
The early full scan is performed only by our specialist doctors in fetal medicine. It is best conducted from week 16+0, when we also have the opportunity to see more details of the heart. The early full scan is for those who want extra reassurance before the next scan at week 20. It may also be suitable if you have previously had a child with malformations or are concerned after the nuchal translucency scan, despite a normal risk assessment.
If something is detected during the scan, we will refer you to your local hospital. There, you will be scanned by their doctors and the next steps will be planned.
No, unfortunately not all malformations can be detected with ultrasound. Some abnormalities may only develop later in pregnancy.
- Minor malformations.

- Malformations that may be so severe that termination of the pregnancy is considered.
