Chorion Villus Sample/ Amniocentesis
These tests are solely performed at the Copenhagen clinic.
We have great experience in theses tests.
Both tests are performed only by Lillian Skibsted, who has performed over 7000 invasive procedures.
• CVS can be done from full 11 weeks until full 13 weeks
• Amniocentesis can be done after 15 full weeks.
Both tests are performed by injecting a very thin needle into either the placenta or the amnion cavity. This is done penetrating the mothers belly. It is no more uncomfortable than to have a normal blood test taken. We recommend the mother to take it easy for 1- 2 days after the procedure.
The results:
The results will be sent to you only.
You will receive 2 letters:
The first letter will arrive after 3-4 working days including the test results on chromosomes 13, 18, 21 and the sex chromosome. An extra chromosome 21 (3 instead of 2) results in Downs Syndrome, the most common chromosome abnormality.
The second letter includes the full test result of all chromosomes and arrives after 9 days in CVS and after 2 weeks in Amniocentesis.
In both cases there is an increased risk of miscarriage of 0.5 %
